How to contribute

Anyone can help improve the DWP Design System by suggesting a change, sharing insights or proposing a new component or pattern.

If you use the Design System

If you use something from the DWP Design System, let us know so that we can keep learning and improving. You can email the Design System team with questions, comments or suggestions.

Hypotheses and the design system

The DWP Design System grows through evidence. Before something becomes a standard it needs to show it works, tested with real users in real contexts. That applies to components, patterns and guidance alike.

Hypothesis-driven design is how that evidence gets built. A hypothesis turns an observation into something testable. Testing it creates a record of what you saw, what you tried, and what you found. That record is what the design system needs from contributors. Not a finished design, but a tested idea with the evidence behind it.

Suggest a new pattern

If you have an idea for a new pattern or component, email the Design System team. Tell us:

  • why you would find it useful
  • if you have seen a similar thing elsewhere
  • what user need you think it could meet

We review every idea and use your suggestions to prioritise our work.

Give feedback

We depend on insights from real projects to update and improve the design system. If you use something we made, tell us how it went.
